That's something President Barack Obama may want to know more about in response to concerns over "new regulations," said Eric Zuesse, who served in the White House during the previous administration.

The Obama administration, he said, will examine whether U.S. regulations should be more closely followed by private sectors.

"We're more comfortable doing regulatory things that help our industries grow. A lot of CEOs are less happy with how little enforcement they have," Zuesse said. "And I think that will go a long way toward addressing that issue that the United States has been pushing for, particularly those where businesses are concerned, but particularly where they're concerned about other things the environment has to worry about."

Many companies are taking their time, Zuesse said, but a large focus on improving employee health and safety in their product development works. Companies like Dow Chemical Inc., Google Inc and Microsoft Corp. have some focus.

"There would be some concern in terms of government regulation being too restrictive," he said. "We have to look at what kind of safety that they provide."
